Scouts is powered by volunteers, and every role helps create the adventures, opportunities, and life skills that young people gain through the programme. You don’t need any previous experience in Scouting – just enthusiasm and a willingness to help.
Many Ways to Get Involved
There are lots of different ways to volunteer, so you can find something that fits your interests, skills, and availability.
Uniformed Roles
These volunteers work directly with young people and help deliver activities and programmes each week. This may include section leaders and assistant leaders who run meetings and activities, activity instructors who share their skills, and occasional helpers who support meetings, camps, or trips.
Behind-the-Scenes Roles
Not all volunteering involves weekly meetings. Many volunteers support the group in other important ways, such as helping on the trustee board, assisting with fundraising and events, supporting administration or communications, helping maintain equipment or buildings, or assisting with transport, catering, and logistics.
Flexible and Rewarding
Volunteering can be as flexible as you need it to be. Some people help every week, while others volunteer occasionally at events, camps, or fundraising activities.
Whatever role you choose, you will be helping young people gain skills for life while becoming part of a friendly and supportive community. Volunteering also gives you the opportunity to learn new skills, try new activities, and share in the adventures that make Scouting special.
